October 2020 GOIN' thru-the-closet Sales
I have come to some determination that I need to make room, to continue doing my work as an artist. This means some works that have accumulated need to physically "go" somewhere. Either to new homes or possibly another burn pile. Going to a new home means I am building the possibility of a dream to make my hopes for a new studio/workshop space sure and you are helping me make that dream possible. Such a space is to my thinking a necessity.
So, I am posting works as I photograph them, rethink their need to remain in my inventory. Many are earlier plein air works, some studies and experiments. My work usually prices per sq inch...and know these will be marked roughly 70% less than my current work these sizes.
Feel free to contact me and we can arrange to work things out, I have been known to work out payments to stretch things out more manageably. I am not at this "Covid" moment beholding to a gallery as for my pricing consistencies. Whatever I sell...I intend to go toward savings toward this new workshop construction...hopefully come this Spring I'll be able to have workers break ground.
What I will do upon inquiry is provide a "paypal.me" link for those comfortable with online encrypted safe payments. We will have to discuss other arrangements. (*Note shipping will be an additional expense on the buyer's part)

New Homeward Bounds...
I have four smaller works, oil studies here that I will let go one-hundred dollars or best offer...contact me. Each will fit in a small ideal cardboard box I have for shipping these...
The first two are plein air studies, the first done in Alaska around 2007...off Douglas Island at Juneau, Alaska...the other near home here in NE Wisconsin, off Alderton Rd...four miles north of Laona...both are 5"x 7" oils on pumice panel. Pumice is mixed with gesso primer, adds some absorbing grit qualities I like, lightly sanded that receive paint well.
The next two are small wildlife studies, 5"x 4" Redhead drake, alert pose swimming, and looking down onto a black bear and Pike River in northern Wisconsin...painting in higher key... 5"x 7" oil on birch...
I will provide you a paypal.me link for easy quick secure payment...or can create a paypal official invoice pay link...
*Note...click or select, and a larger image will come up to view...thanks

The USE of studys in a live, on-sight Plein Air Application...
I used to prime MFD board to carry along, but since I've been prepping Thunderbolt cardstock (Kraft ph neutral 80# paper), I have found it more convenient both to paint, and then thereafter to store (either in a plastic bin, paintings separated by wax coated paper...or a small art portfolio). There are just a couple examples...of practical application.
Setup on the Temperance River...along the west shores of Lake Superior, in Cook County...and painting in the Grand Marais Plein Air event...I was looking at the mouth, the light, visitors (often skipping stones once they got out there), and realized that morning, that the light was definitely going to change in a hurry, and change the whole sense of the drama in the small gorge. I decided that a couple quick 4"x 6" taped off prepped cardstock paintings would be ideal...to decide if I would like the horizon of the distant water high with less sky, or low with more sky...and get the shadows down?
It proved to be a good plan...after choosing the second quick study, because as I believed it would...the light having moved into the gorge created an entirely different setting. The subject remained worthy as a reference, but it no longer held true to the compelling drama that I wanted.
My paint students proved to be fairly new at painting outdoors on location, so I demonstrated a simple palette, first a values driven black and white mix of a dark, mid, light plus white...and then did the same with color choosing several dominant colors of the scene to set up my mixing palette with a dark, mid, light of each color. If the work required more color transitions, I would leave the option over to include two halftones to each main value group.
